Recently, a friend told me they were greatly disturbed by the amount of pornographic content on X. Interested in some of the content on X (from the accounts they follow) but not wanting to view the pornography, my friend had resorted to using X only when in public places so that the prying eyes would keep him from dwelling on any sexual content that would appear on his phone's screen.

This was the second friend to tell me X was a place full of pornography with the first being one I was interesting in signing up on the application. I don’t think she has to date.

I, too, have seen a lot of pornography on X. However, this was a bigger issue back when X was Twitter. Then, as it still is on Facebook, the application’s algorithm selected and displayed tweets on my timelines that they thought I would be interested in, and many of those tweets had explicit content.

However, with Musk’s takeover of Twitter, a new feature was added that I activated to ensure that I only view content from the 50 accounts I currently follow on X. This feature can be found at the top of the app when you open it as shown in the image below.

There are two tabs—’For you’ and ‘Following’. Click on the Following tab to view content from only the accounts you follow. Once you have clicked on it, a blue line should appear under it to confirm that you have made that tab your default tab.

With the Following tab set as your default tab, you will only view content from the accounts you are following.

The other functionality you can make use of is ‘Turn off reposts’. This will come in handy if an account you follow on X does not share original pornographic content but reposts it. If you are still interested in the original content (not reposts) from that account, simply turn off reposts from it. And to do this, follow the steps below.

1. Go to the page of the account whose reposts you want to turn off.

2. Click on the 3 dots in the top right corner of that account's cover photo (with a green boundary in the image below).

3. Tap/click on “Turn off reposts”.

You should now have a pornography-free experience on X unless you deliberately surf the application for the same.

Whatever your opinion of pornography may be, do you believe that people shameless enough to parade their nakedness on camera for the whole world to see are worth your audience?

Fellow man, the nakedness of a woman’s body will always have an appeal to any male body. However, poison does not have to be bitter to kill. Watching pornography will always take much more than the gain it offers you, if any.
